My mother never wanted me.
It was clear from the day I was born
to this very moment.
My grandparents faced the ultimate embarrassment in 1960.
Their 20-year-old child, raised under strong, conservative Christian values, became pregnant without being married. They made her go before the church and ask for forgiveness.
My grandfather told her she had to put the child up for adoption.
She refused.
I know it was not because of love. It was a way to defy her father.
